Senior Scientist - Porton Down

The Person

You will work within a small team on contract and internal manufacture projects. These include production of small and large scale quantities of monoclonal antibodies from clones supplied by the customer, development of purification strategies and immunoassays for antibody specificity testing and development.

We are looking for someone who is inventive and creative in their approach to solving problems, and able to learn new skills quickly in the area of monoclonal antibody production and immuno assay development. You will be keen to contribute ideas and solutions to all areas of the project, and be excited about working in a fast-paced, constantly changing work environment that demands you regularly step out of your comfort zone.

The Role

The responsibilities of the role include:

  • Working as part of the team in the production of monoclonal antibodies and development of immuno assays
  • Plan, design and complete laboratory experimental work
  • Write up experiments and observations in a format and timescale adhering to BBI Detection and BBI group design control and quality procedures
  • Work cooperatively within the team, sharing ideas and concepts to enable achievement of goals
  • Work and form good relationships within the team and across the group, presenting data in project meetings in a clear, understandable manner, encouraging feedback on experiments and contributing ideas and solutions to all areas of the projects
  • Attend customer meetings and present results to achieve customer satisfaction

Due to the nature of the security requirements for the role, BBI Detection can only accept applications from UK Nationals who have lived in the UK for the last five years. QC Scientist

Based in Cardiff

The Person

The QC Scientist reports into the QC Manager and performs in-process and final testing on the BBI Diagnostic product range, ensuring that all QC activities comply with ISO 9001:2000, ISO 13485:2003 and the FDA Quality System Regulation, CFR Title 21 Part 820. This is an energetic and close-knit team and we are looking to mentor and develop someone with good communication skills who understands the value QC brings to a business

The Role

Duties Include:

  • Carry out in-process and final tests to support manufacturing and R&D activities using calibrated equipment and in accordance with QC Procedures (QCPs).
  • Carry out testing of incoming raw materials and record results on Incoming Data Sheets (IDSs).
  • Initiate required changes to QC documents in accordance with change control procedures; similarly, in conjunction with R&D, for new procedures to support product development.
  • Record and investigate out of specification and out of trend results; also deviations. Alert QC Manager to any significant quality problem that is identified by self.
  • Manage stability trials and perform testing at scheduled intervals.  Record results in QCP and generate reports/maintain spreadsheets.
  • Ensure that all interactions with Customers by self are professional.
  • Lead or participate in quality improvement opportunities within QC.
  • Ensure that all QC activities comply with ISO 9001:2000, ISO 13485:2003 and the FDA Quality System Regulation, CFR Title 21 Part 820.

 Basic Requirements:

  • Science based degree.
  • Preferable to have relevant experience within the medical devices/pharmaceutical industry, ideally the candidate will be familiar with FDA GMP requirements.
  • Laboratory experience, report writing experience and be proficient in MS Word and Excel.
  • Reliable, enthusiastic and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Conjugation Scientist

Based in Cardiff

The Person

The scientists working in this team are from a wide range of backgrounds, some straight from University and with only a few months experience at BBI, others with 4 years or more conjugation experience. This requires good communication between the team members, supervisors and manager in order to ensure that the product meets specifications, and is delivered on time and in full. In addition projects that progress the department and motivate the team must be completed.  There is a strong team-work ethos in the group.

The Role

Duties Include:

  • Conjugation of bio-molecules to colloid, using basic process. Adaption of process as necessary to meet customer requirement
  • Completion of documentation to cGMP
  • QC testing of routine conjugates using customer defined/BBI defined QC process.
  • Development of QC process for new productions using customer supplied materials. Evaluate performance against customer specifications, remanufacture/re-test as required.
  • Conform with product and raw material traceability
  • Pack product using packing forms/to defined procedures
  • Complete a customised laboratory report as required. The level of detail will vary depending on the complexity of conjugation, the customer specification,  and market for which the product is intended
  • Complete trend analysis
  • Peer review of completed documentation

 Basic Requirements:

  • Life science degree – Degree with significant amount of devoted laboratory time preferred.
  • Customer service skills preferred but not essential
  • Experience of using tools for Project management preferred but not essential
  • The ability to work on a product and communicate effectively with the supervisor is key

QA Associate

The Person

The QA Associate ensures that all QA activities comply with ISO9001, ISO13485 and FDA quality system regulation21 Part 820. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a background in Quality to join a small and dynamic team where they can influence the business, and receive training and development ongoing.

The Role

Duties Include:

  • Review of batch records and generation of certificates of analysis
  • Identifying and helping to implement improvement opportunities within the QA department
  • Advising and supporting other departments in QA related issues
  • Representing QA in inter-departmental / customer meetings as required
  • Performing general activities required for the maintenance of the Quality Management System
  • QA representative for R&D projects
  • Review of qualification / validation documentation
  • Maintains and reviews non-conformance / deviation database
  • Maintains and reviews equipment list and calibration register
  • To work in accordance with site and legislative employment policies and safety requirements

Basic Requirements:

  • Experience of Quality Management Systems, ISO9001 and ISO13485 standards
  • Experience in internal auditing
  • Background in a GMP environment

The Quality Assurance Department works across the BBI businesses to share best practices, so the successful candidate will need good communication skills, able to work in a fast-paced environment and be willing to participate in team building days.

Production Technician

Based in Blaenavon

The Person

We have an opportunity for someone to join our Production Team in Blaenavon, to learn the process of extraction and purification of Enzymes from the highly experienced team. This role would suit someone with an interest in Science who is looking for a role where they can develop and take ownership for their learning. You’ll need to be able to demonstrate enthusiasm, spark and desire to learn, and good problem solving skills and attention to detail, with a basis understanding of a scientific discipline such as a degree, or equivalent experience in a lab/ biochemical production environment. 

 The Role

  • Extraction and purification of enzymes and related biochemical using techniques and equipment described in documented procedures.
  • Demonstrate scientific excellence and a high degree of responsibility in maintaining scientific standards.
  • Maintaining and implementing activities in line with the Quality System (ISO 9002).
  • Carry out all work activities in accordance with safety, health and environmental best practice training.
  • Daily monitoring and reporting exercises.

 

Assembly Supervisor

Cardiff-based

 We are keen to find an Assembly Supervisor to join our Cardiff-based team, to take ownership for supervision and training of the production team, who manufacture and assemble BBI’s Rapid Test Products. Supervisors are responsible for the quality and efficiency of both themselves and others who work with them as part of their team.

The Person

The Production Scientist will be a good communicator and be keen to develop their experience. You will get the opportunity to work on projects and to get involved and put ideas forward, so we are looking for people who want to be part of a team, who are passionate and energetic, and are prepared to challenge themselves and others.

Duties Include:

  • Manufacture and assembly of Rapid Tests and other diagnostic products
  • Keeping GMP compliant records
  • Training of all Production employees in your team
  • Liaison with other departments to ensure the smooth functioning of manufacturing
  • Planning the day to day work activity for the teams to meet daily production targets
  • Use of SAGE – WOs/Bin to Bin
  • Suggest ideas in support of Continuous Improvement

 Basic Requirements:

  • Prior manufacturing experience
  • Experience with staff supervision
  • Appropriate standards of numeracy, literacy and communication
